Mark Cuban picks up Delonte West at gas station to seek help for ex-baller

The Dallas Mavericks owner has offered to pay for the ex-NBA star’s rehab.

Mark Cuban was spotted picking up ex-NBA star Delonte West at a Texas gas station on Monday.

The Dallas Mavericks owner has offered to pay for West’s rehab after photos went viral last week showing the former athlete begging for money on the side of the road, theGRIO previously reported. Sports fans and the NBA world responded to the disturbing images. West’s former coach Doc Rivers and the Players Association have also offered to help …ever since he was filmed shirtless on a city curb, shouting expletives with a bloodied and bruised face back in January.

Following last week’s viral photos taken in Dallas, Cuban had been trying to contact the former Mavericks guard. West reportedly agreed to meet him on Monday. Video footage shows Cuban picking him up at a Dallas gas station. According to TMZ, West was taken to a local hotel, and is said to be receptive to treatment for his mental health issues.

West’s family and close friends have long been trying to convince him to enter rehab, but he has been reluctant until recently, according to the report.

West was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2008.

“I’m sick today [sic] my stomach right now seeing the videos of Delonte,” Jameer Nelson, who played with West at Saint Joseph’s, wrote on social media at the time of the January video New York Post reports. “To answer everybody that’s reaching out to me about his situation … all we can do is pray for Him and his family and hope that he seeks the proper help. Mental illness is something that a lot of people deal with and don’t even know it, until sometimes it’s too late. I’m not sure what exactly is going on with Dwest but he knows I’m in his corner and will help him get through this.”

Several years ago, after a series of bizarre events, West’s brother, Dmitri dished publicly brother’s bipolar disorder diagnosis.

“Delonte West is not crazy, he is not on drugs. I don’t know what exactly is going on in his mind but I can tell you that he is safe and he’s doing OK,” Dmitri said at that time. “My family are trying to get him the best professional help that’s out there, the best that they can afford.”

West played eight seasons in the NBA, including several seasons with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, the SuperSonics, and Celtics. He played for the Dallas Mavs from 2011-2012.
